May 5, 12pm-9pm: No War With Iran Rally & Marches

Veterans Memorial Park, Main Street & Western, Fond du Lac, WI

March, XXPM: Veteran’s Memorial Park to Fond du Lac County Jail

March, XXPM: Veteran’s Memorial Park to US Military’s Recruiting Office

Wisconsin’s 99% Say NO! to War With Iran,

Hold First State-Wide Occupy General Assembly in Fond du Lac, WI

On the 5th of May Occupy Fond du Lac will hold a day-long Peace Rally, themed,

“No War with Iran,” in response to apparent bipartisan support for another illegal war in the Middle East.

“Together the people of Wisconsin will make a preemptive demand to stop a potentially costly and deadly war with Iran before it starts,” says Loki from Occupy Fond du Lac. “Almost half of our federal tax dollars go to fund the US war machine. That money is from the 99% and should be spent on education, jobs and healthcare, not another illegal war and war profiteering”

Occupy Fond du Lac has two marches planned for this event. The first, starts at Veterans Memorial Park and proceeds to the Fond du Lac County Jail, to protest the privatized United States prison industry. The US has the highest reported incarceration rate in the world; although the crime rate has decreased since 1990, the rate of imprisonment has continued to increase.

The second march, from Veterans Memorial Park to the Fond du Lac’s US Army Recruiting Office, will feature a street theater die-in in solidarity with the 7,000 US Military and 1.5 million Iraqi civilian casualties of the Iraq war.

At the rally in Veteran’s Memorial Park, speakers and their topics include: No war with Iran speaker from Veterans for Peace; Power of the People speaker from the Recall Walker campaign; Environmental speaker from Wisconsin’s Indian Country; Injustice speaker from Occupy Milwaukee’s Hood.

At 3 pm in Veteran’s Memorial Park, Occupy Wisconsin will hold their first ever Statewide General Assembly. The General Assembly is a model of real democracy, bringing discussion and debate no longer seen in politics to the public square. Occupy Wisconsin will discuss how to further organize and prepare for spring, and what directions to move in. This General Assembly has been endorsed by Occupy Appleton, Occupy Milwaukee, Occupy Madison, Occupy Riverwest, Occupy Fond du Lac, Occupy Oshkosh, WisconsinBailOutThePeople.org, WisconsinJobsNow.org and many other organizations.
